There are many other ways to change habits, however. Just because the biggest thing might be to change your environment doesn't mean that other things don't help or work. For example, I may say, on average, extrinsic motivation may not lead to habit formation. This means that external rewards may or may not sometimes lead to building a habit. For some people, external rewards will REALLY help however. And, even further, the type of external reward likely differs from person to person. For some, a monetary reward may help motivate and for others a social reward may help more. Although habit formation and change is a science, it has many pieces and the full picture likely looks different, to some degree, depending on characteristics of the habit itself, the person and the environment.
